Top 3 of Rihanna’s Met Gala looks
Rihanna is fashion world’s favourite muse. She is loved by designers but also people around the world want to dress like her or wear clothes designed by her. This is probably why she was chosen to host the 2018 Met Gala – an event anyone who matters in the fashion world should attend in May. And Rihanna’s history with Met Ball is all about winning: she first attended in 2007 and this year she amazed everyone by tackling the challenging theme just perfectly. Let’s take a look at (in my humble opinion) Top 3 of Rihanna’s most memorable Met Gala looks while we wait in anticipation for her to slay the 2018 theme: Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination.
Met Gala is not about beautiful or safe. It is about being adventurous, understanding the theme and making the outfits look like they were made just for you. Every time Rihanna attends Met Ball she makes sure to study the theme and she chooses an outfit that reflects it.
2009 – The Model As Muse: Embodying Fashion
When Rihanna arrived on the red carpet the first thing everyone noticed was how fierce she looked. How confident she looked in her outfit. How she owned it. She literally embodied fashion. Fashion in the edgy and fierce sense. Very brave. The exaggerated shoulders were the hit of the moment at that time. The tailored suit by Dolce & Gabbana with bow tie paired with black stilettos (she was meant to wear boots but the idea changed last moment) was the look of the night. In 2009 Rihanna showed the world how she is not afraid to experiment with fashion. Also that year could be seen as the birth of Rihanna – Fashion Icon we know today.
2015 – China: Through the Looking Glass
The star of the evening. The most amazing gown we got to see in 2015 and actually nothing have been able to top it since. Designed by Guo Pei and executed perfectly by Rihanna. When she arrived last on the red carpet no one else who came before her mattered. She stole the show not only with the gown but how perfectly her whole look came together: ginger hair, amazing make-up and the headpiece. What is worth mentioning is that RiRi seemed to be the only one who did her homework on the theme. Bravo!
2017 – Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons
Comme des Garçons was not an easy theme. The looks created by Rei Kawakubo are very brave, extravagant and edgy. It gets a real fashion icon to execute such style and not get lost in the designs’ perfection or to look overwhelmed by it. Rihanna is perfect when it comes to owning the outfits she chooses. She is so confident in this straight off the Fall 2016 runway look you feel magnetized by it and also it feels like it was designed specifically just for her. Once again she proved there is only one Queen of the Met Gala and it is Robyn Rihanna Fenty.
