Back in 2013, Rihanna was the first artist to receive American Music Awards Icon Award. Rihanna came out to sing her hit Diamonds and after the performance she was presented with the Icon Award by her mother Monica.

In her speech, Rihanna thanked her mother for saying yes when she wanted to achieve her dreams; talked about her journey from Barbados to a worldwide superstar and thanked her fans, who are always very supportive.

The 2016 American Music Awards will broadcast live from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday, November 20 at 8:00pm ET on ABC.
