Fenty PUMA by Rihanna spring/summer 17: see the looks

Read Time:3 minutes

Rihanna stormed the Paris runways on Wednesday with her collection for the sneaker giant Puma, bringing her vision of Marie Antoinette to street wear, corseted hoodies, lace skull caps, ruffled knapsacks, bow-front Fenty slides and all.

It was the final event of a day of shows that demonstrated a leveling of this top-down world, with high fashion meeting the street and the gym, and the runway ideal meeting a more attainable reality.

There were girls in do-rags, guys in pearls, it was a gender-bending mash-up of privilege and pop star, featuring haute riffs on athletic wear rendered in pale macaron shades of pink, lavender, mint green and cream, brimming with frilly details.

Brocade anoraks peeled away from the body, attached to the shoulders with grosgrain ribbons; hoodies laced up the front like corsets; and baseball caps were veiled in tulle.

There were two presentations (one scheduled at 7:30 CEST and the other at 8:30 CEST) and they were both live-streamed on Tidal for free. Models Doutzen Kroes, Sara Sampaio, and Jourdan Dunn traded in the runway for the front row, arriving at Rihanna’s show outfitted in Fenty x Puma.

Accessories-wise, there were netted color-coordinated baseball caps, doo rags, giant bow bags (worn either slung across the chest or from the hips, like a fanny pack), pearls stacked on the neck or on each bicep, and super bling-y jewelry that decorated the lobes of each model. Some carried fans with “Puma” stamped across, while others bit down on rings (which created the illusion of grills).

You might have spotted Sita Abellán in the photos whose appearance on the Fenty runway marks her second collaboration with Rihanna, who cast her in the “Bitch Better Have My Money” video back in 2015. Since then, they’ve remained friendly, thanks in part to the superstar’s approachable attitude.

“I became such a fan of hers after meeting her,” Abellán says. “I didn’t expect that she would be so sweet, but when I went and had a meeting with her, I was just like, ‘Whoa, this girl is cool.’ ”
