Issa crush! Issa Rae is a successful director, writer, actress and producer and this year’s Diamond Ball was hosted by her. During a quick interview with Page Six, Issa Rae called Rihanna her girl crush. “Rihanna is my girl crush. I would just love to adapt her ‘I don’t give a f–k’-ness. It’s just so admirable, especially […]
Rihanna’s advice for her younger self could benefit all of us. What is it? When asked about it during an interview with E!News at the fourth annual Diamond Ball, the woman conquering one industry at a time replied: “Sleep. Because you’re not gonna get to do it in your twenties or your thirties, the way my […]
Rihanna has been working on a project with Donald Glover, but she’s not ready to give us the details. ET’s Nischelle Turner spoke with the singer at her 4th Annual Diamond Ball benefiting The Clara Lionel Foundation in NYC on Thursday, where she played coy when asked what she has up her sleeve with the […]
The best way to experience the Diamond Ball? With Rihanna, of course! The superstar took Vogue behind the scenes of her annual bash for an all-access experience, taking the cameras along as she prepped, primped, and made her grand entrance at Cipriani Wall Street. The gala, which raises funds for the Clara Lionel Foundation, was a star-studded celebration […]
Clara Lionel Foundation and Rihanna are getting ready for the fourth annual Diamond Ball. According to HipHopDX, they have already started sending out the invitations. The fourth Diamond Ball is set to take place on September 13, 2018 at the Cipriani Wall Street in New York (the place of the third Diamond Ball). Clara Lionel […]
On Thursday night, reigning queen of, well, everything Rihanna hosted her third Diamond Ball in downtown New York. A charity gala raising money for her Clara Lionel Foundation, which supports health and education initiatives currently in the Caribbean and Malawi, Rihanna was joined by the evening’s host Dave Chappelle and musical guests Kendrick Lamar and Calvin Harris for a glitzy night of stars — and big […]
Rihanna’s Diamond Ball, now in its third year, is a benefit for a worthy cause: her Clara Lionel Foundation, named after her grandparents, which raises money for impoverished communities across the globe, with healthcare and education among other various programs. The last one, in December 2015, raised $3 million. But let’s be real: Like most such events, the […]
The third Diamond Ball is currently taking place in New York but the first photos are already in. Rihanna turned heads in a dramatic black Ralph & Russo Couture gown that featured a blazer bodice with long sleeves, silk bustier and high-low train, which floated across the red carpet as she made her way inside […]
Calvin Harris has been announced as the second performer at the upcoming third annual Diamond Ball. The black-tie event will take place in New York on September 14. Harris is joining Kendrick Lamar who was announced as the first performer at the end of June. Dave Chappelle has been tapped to host the ball. In the official […]
Dave Chappelle has been tapped to host Rihanna’s third annual Diamond Ball on Sept. 14. The black-tie fundraising gala at Cipriani Wall Street in New York will also feature a performance by Kendrick Lamar on a night dedicated to raising money for the Clara Lionel Foundation, an education, health and emergency response organization founded in 2012 by the […]
The Hollywood Reporter: A glimpse inside RiRi’s charity event, where Kevin Hart played host and Lionel Richie performed his famous tunes like “Easy Like Sunday Morning” and “All Night Long.”
Just outside the entrance to Santa Monica’s historic Barker Hanger — a onetime airport space now used for big Hollywood-type events because of its 43-foot ceiling and 35,000-square feet interior space — press and photographers gathered under a clear tent just after 5 p.m. to get photos and quotes from guests of Rihanna’s 2nd annual Diamond Ball. But really everyone was just waiting on the A-list hostess.
The red carpet — a matching complement to the crimson handprint logo of Rihanna’s Clara Lionel Foundation, the night’s recipient of goodwill and good press — had been rolled out and stepped on by the likes of Will Smith and wife Jada Pinkett Smith by the time RiRi arrived around 7 p.m. (Though Mr. Smith didn’t do any interviews, the newly-minted Golden Globe nominee sounded giddy as he mimicked the crush of photographers and shouted “Jada! Jada! Jada!” while she posed in a white Zuhair Murad dress. He’d later pinch her butt.)
Kylie Jenner, Tyga, Zendaya, Emily Ratajkowski and host Kevin Hart would follow, but nobody makes an entrance quite like the superstar singer, who seemed to float down the line in a champagne Dior Couture creation. The strapless ensemble featured a cinched waist and matching shawl, which she clutched as she breezed past print reporters at the end of the carpet. One of the journalists asked when to expect her much-anticipated (and delayed and delayed and delayed) new album, Anti. “Soon, loves,” she cooed in an effortlessly cool way that few, if any, artists can get away with the way Rihanna does.
Though her native Barbados has received the bulk of the foundation’s attention, Rihanna made it clear that her philanthropic efforts go beyond the Caribbean island. And it will be easier to spread the wealth after all the cash was counted on Thursday night because the 2015 edition of the Diamond Ball tallied more than $3 million, including a $50,000 donation from the energetic Hart.
The Clara Lionel Foundation, founded by Rihanna in 2012, works to improve the quality of life for communities globally in the areas of health, education, arts and culture. On December 10, 2015 we celebrate the foundation’s work at the second annual Diamond Ball with host Kevin Hart and a special performance by Lionel Richie. We […]
