RiRi Hearts M.A.C

Spring 2013

Rihanna’s collaboration with M∙A∙C was announced in February 2013. In the official statement Rihanna said:

“When you think of make-up, the brand that pops into your mind – for something legit – is MAC. Whatever colour you want, it’s like: ‘Let’s go to MAC’. I’ve been using MAC on tour for such a long time it was a natural fit for me. I have always loved make-up, and I always said that if I do it, I want to do it with a credible brand. Working with MAC, it’s difficult to get a red lipstick that beats Ruby Woo, because it works on every skin tone. I had so many different samples to choose from and so many different colours underneath – blue, yellow, orange and pink bases. And I got to pick one that worked, and I tried it on all my friends to make sure it worked on all of our skin tones.”

VIVA GLAM

Rihanna’s VIVA GLAM lipstick hit the stores on 21st of January 2014 (North America) and every penny went to help people affected by HIV/AIDS. As the new face of M.A.C. Viva Glam, the singer was following in the footsteps of Lady Gaga and Nicki Minaj in an effort to support the M.A.C. AIDS Fund, which has raised a remarkable $300 million in the fight against HIV and AIDS. The cause, RiRi tells me as we cozy up on the couch, is close to her heart:

“I’ve been around so many people who have been affected by HIV and AIDS. It’s my turn to spread awareness. Because when people don’t talk about this, they feel like it’s not happening.”

And that couldn’t be further from the truth.

According to UNAIDS—a United Nations partnership that focuses on universal access to HIV prevention, treatment, care, and support—approximately 2,300 young people become infected with HIV each day. Even scarier: Globally, HIV infection rates are twice as high in young women ages 15 to 24 as they are in young men.

“Nobody is safe unless you protect yourself,” the star says ardently, fixing her piercing green eyes on me. “My contribution is that every penny from the cost of this lipstick and Lipglass goes to help someone who really needs it,” she says. “I am doing this especially for young girls.”

In August 2014 the second Rihanna Viva Glam lipstick was announced. Rihanna brought a bold look to her fierce new VIVA GLAM campaign, accenting her fearless, confident style with shades of frosted metallic mauve Lipstick and Lipglass, in velvety soft red packaging featuring her signature.
