“Rihanna 777 Documentary”: Review

Read Time:2 minutes

The French part of our team was enabled to get an exclusive first look at Rihanna’s upcoming DVD about the “777 Tour”. Here’s a detailed review:

This documentary, which lasts 77 minutes, is very well edited and really interesting. The main idea behind this DVD was to show how Rihanna’s trip looked like. For each one of the 7 shows, one can see Rihanna with guests and staff in the plane, then backstage footage, a single performance and finally fans interviews. Here’s the setlist:

1st day: Mexico City – “Phresh out the runway”

2nd day: Toronto – “S&M”

3rd day: Stockholm – “Where Have You Been ?”

4th day: Paris – “Umbrella”

5th day: Berlin – “Only Girl (In The World)”

6th day: London – “Diamonds” performance at “Westfield Christmas Lights Switch On” and “Stay” performance

7th day: New York – Footage of “Unapologetic release party” at “Best Buy” and “We Found Love” performance

Lots of people were interviewed for the DVD: lucky fans, journalists, bloggers, her staff, celebrities who went at the venues, … For instance, we could see her personnal assistant, Jennifer Rosales, her gitarrist, Nuno or even her stylist, Mel Ottenberg. They talked about the trip and how working with Rihanna is. We could also see the very famous fashion designer Stella McCartney, Kylie Minogue, Adam Selman and very briefly, Jay-Z.

Of course, there is also footage of Rihanna having fun, chilling with her team, and joking in front of the camera. There are also some crazy moments: Rihanna throwing her bra to the cameraman, or Rihanna screaming “Braaah braaah” in the airplane’s megaphone.

The soundtrack of the documentary is filled with songs from Rihanna’s latest album to date, “Unapologetic”. Some tweets of people who attended the venues, as well as Rihanna’s, are also displayed. The end of the DVD made us get very emotional, as a lot of backstage videos from all shows are shown.

As stated in the title, this DVD is a documentary and is therefore different from what Rihanna used to release previously: don’t expect a whole concert, but rather an inside look at this surprising tour. Priority wasn’t set to Rihanna’s vocal performances but to how this tour was put together.
