Rihanna has revealed an exclusive preview of her long-awaited range for “River Island. Watch the “Vogue” cover girl as she takes viewers for a tour around her design studio with her co-designer Adam Selman — from model fittings to a never-seen-before look at the collection sketches.
“I have wanted to design my own fashion label for a very long time,” Rihanna explains. “This has been something I wanted to do ever since I started loving fashion. Every time I saw something on a rack there was something I wanted to do to change it and so I thought that the only way I could do that is by designing the perfect thing for me.”
Aimed at “sassy young personalities”, the diverse collection will be “casual, chic and flirty” and for “all different body types”. Items shown in the film include swimwear, striped tops with plunging backs, jumpsuits and a floor-length black dress with sheer panelling.
“I wanted all types of girls to be able to wear this and feel comfortable but edgy,” she said. “I wanted there to be character within the clothes, but without it trying too hard. It’s just simple.”
It was Britain’s reputation as a leader in street style that attracted the star to work with River Island on her debut fashion line. The collection will be unveiled in full at a catwalk show during London Fashion Week.
“The kids say what’s cool and the designers go and design it,” she said. “Why not go to the source when you want to be ahead of the trend? I wanted to create something that’s inspirational, new and fresh – that’s why I wanted to work with “River Island”,” she said.
